Kalahari Melon is a pre-historic watermelon that had adapted to survive in Arid conditions. This wild watermelon originates from the plains of Southern Africa.
Kalahari melon has yellow or pale green flesh and a bitter taste. When the watermelons are harvested, their seeds are collected. The seeds are dried in the sun and seeds are pressed to extract the Kalahari melon seed oil which has a beautiful golden yellow colour.
From a sustainability point of view, Kalahari melon seed can absorb market demand with very little impact on the environment; it needs very little water to survive and grows best in arid regions, away from forests in areas where other commercial crops struggle to grow.
Below are the properties of Kalahari melon seed oil, and these explain why we have chosen Kalahari Melon Seed Oil in our Concentrates.
1) RICH IN ESSENTIAL FATTY ACID - 70% Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), EFAs help to repair the integrity of the skin barrier, meaning the skin retains more moisture and keeps out pollution. High Omega 6 (linoleic acid) content provides moisturising and restructuring properties, it also makes it suitable for all skin types including sensitive.
2) HIGHEST VITAMIN E CONTENT WHEN COMPARED TO MOST OILS - Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin against damage and premature ageing. High vitamin E content makes Kalahari melon seed oil a very stable oil, which when blended with other oils may prolong the shelf-life of the oil blend. Vitamin E due to its antioxidant effects products against wrinkles.
3) HIGH PHYTOSTEROLS - Composed of almost 2% unsaponifiable to help protect skin barrier function.
